Stay on target Never Miss Another Putt With Nissan’s Self-Driving Golf BallScania Unveils Multi-Purpose Autonomous Vehicle Concept For some reason, even after the commercial and artistic failure of Terminator Genisys, Schwarzenegger is taking the fight to Skynet once again in a new Terminator film from Deadpool director Tim Miller. They even just cast Mackenzie Davis. But the real fight between humans and machines won’t be that inevitably mediocre movie. It’s happening right now literally on the streets. Futurism has a pretty hilarious/terrifying rundown of the recent 2018 plague that is human-on-driveless car violence. Here are a few examples of humanity’s growing rap sheet against our autonomous automobile allies. In San Francisco, a dude started shouting and striking a Chevy Bolt (a PCMag Editors’ Choice Winner) at a traffic stop. He even broke a a tail light. A different dude in San Francisco slapped a different stopped Chevy Bolt and scratched a window. And while they aren’t self-driving cars, San Francisco residents did assault patrolling security robots at an animal shelter. So why do people hate self-driving cars so much? Well in that second case the assailant was a taxi driver, so for him attacking the symbol of how Uber plans to take away his livelihood just makes sense from a job security perspective. But in general people probably just don’t trust driveless cars because they are radical and dangerous-looking new technology (even if they are safer than human driving). Even I made a Terminator joke in this story and those movies are all about (ir)rational fear of technology. Plus, if you live in San Francisco, it’s probably fun to stick it to hyper-capitalist gentrifying Silicon Valley folks in their fancy cyber wagons.Fortunately, no humans were hurt in any of these attacks. Even when cars are doing the driving legally humans needs to technically be behind the wheel. So in an emergency they could stop the vehicle from crashing into a pedestrian. Hopefully, in the future, we won’t look back on these days as the relatively peaceful period before World War Car truly turned bloody.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
