Amateur Lauren Taylor wins LETAS event

first_img2 Sep 2013 Amateur Lauren Taylor wins LETAS event England international Lauren Taylor has become only the third amateur to win on the Ladies European Tour Access Series. The 19-year-old from Woburn triumphed at this weekend’s Norrporten Ladies Open in Sweden, finishing at one-under par to win by one shot from the Netherland’s Chrisje de Vries and Sohvi Harkonen from Finland. Lauren was lying sixth and was four shots off the lead at the start of the final round, but powered her way to the top of the leaderboard with a two-under score for the day. The final round was played with two circuits of a composite nine-hole course, with a par of 74, after heavy overnight rain made the Sundsvalls Golf Course extremely wet. Lauren started her round with bogeys on the 2nd and 3rd holes but recovered well, playing the remaining 15 holes in four under par, with birdies on the 4th, 7th, 11th and 14th holes. Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell was the first amateur to win a LETAS event claiming the 2012 Ljungbyhed Park PGA Ladies Open in Sweden. In May this year Swedish amateur Linn Andersson won the Kristianstad Åhus Ladies PGA Open, also in Sweden. The Access Series was launched in 2010. Lauren has decided not to continue with her US college scholarship at Baylor University and plans to play the remainder of the LET Access Series season, with her aim to qualify for the Ladies European Tour next year. The next LET Access Series event, the Ladies Norwegian Challenge will take place at Hauger Golf Club, near Oslo, Norway from the 18 – 20 September. Before then, though, she will represent England in next week’s Women’s Home Internationals. Lauren made history as a 16-year-old when she became the youngest-ever winner of the British championship in 2011. This year she has won the Dutch Junior Open for the third year in a row and scored a six-shot win in the Astor Salver.
