first_imgOn Saturday, June 30, Guyana’s Senior Men’s Basketball Team for the first time captured the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship as the tournament wrapped up at the Anthony Nesty Sporthal (NIS) in Paramaribo, Suriname.The 2018 Men’s Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championship holders, Guyana, display their hardware following their win in the final on SaturdayThe eventual champions played undefeated throughout the 10-team tournament with their final victory coming over Antigua and Barbuda, 83-70. Stanton Rose’s captain performance ensured the title was won with a game-high 23 points.He was supported by Ray Victor, who finished with 13 points while Anthony Moe and Shaine Webster contributed evenly, as 24 points were dropped between them.The victory now means Guyana and the runners-up, Antigua, will be the Caribbean’s two representatives in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) AmeriCup qualifier tournament, which is scheduled to tip off in September.On the way to the final, Guyana defeated Barbados 76-71 to break the 24-year curse. Guyana’s only other success at the CBC is the 1996 Women’s Title, which was captured in the Twin Island Republic.last_img
