West Ham fans will back Bilic appointment, believes ex-Hammer

first_imgSlaven Bilic will receive the full backing of West Ham United fans should he take the manager’s job at Upton Park, Dean Ashton has told talkSPORT.The Hammers have begun their search for a new boss after revealing they would part company with Sam Allardyce at the end of his deal this summer just minutes after the final whistle of their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on the final day of the season.Besiktas head coach Bilic, who played in east London for a year and a half after signing for the club in 1996, is one of the frontrunners to replace the outgoing Allardyce as he quits the Turkish side at the end of their campaign. And former West Ham striker Ashton reckons his popularity amongst supporters will be a huge boost to his chances of success with the club.He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “The fan power is very strong at West Ham, they will let you know if they are not happy with you and I think Sam found that out. It’s not just about getting results, which he got. At the start of the season we were looking at a late challenge for Champions League football, which was a bit premature.“Having the fans on side will make a great difference and Slaven Bilic would obviously get that because of his status at West Ham. He knows the club and knows what the fans demand.“He did a great job for Croatia. It’s easy to forget just how well he did there and the style of football they played.“Unai Emery is another manager that you just think, if he won the Europa League with Sevilla has he gone as far as he can with them? He’s a manager that I love. I love the way they play but I think Slaven’s probably the favourite for the job.”last_img
